At Stake in this Election: 

  • 12 seats of the Philippines Senate 

  • Chief of State: President Ferdinand “BongBong” MARCOS, Jr. (since 30 June 2022)  

  • Head of Government: President Ferdinand “BongBong” MARCOS, Jr. (since 30 June 2022) 

  • Assembly: bicameral Congress (Kongreso) comprised of a 318-seat House of Representatives (Kapulungan Ng Mga Kinatawan) and a 24-seat Senate (Senado).  

  • The President and Vice President are directly elected on separate ballots by simple majority vote for a single six-year term. 

  • All members of the House of Representatives are directly elected, with 20% of seats elected using a party-list systems and the remaining from geographic districts. As of March 2025, there are 318 members, but the seat count varies over time according to population distribution. 

  • All 24 members of the Senate are directly elected at-large and serve six-year terms. Half of the Senate (12 members) is renewed every three years. 

The last election for seats in the Senate was held on May 9, 2022. The Nationalist People’s Coalition (NPC) won 4 seats and independent candidates won 4 seats. Philippine Democratic Party-People's Power (PDP-Laban), the Nationalist Party, Akbayan and the Force of the Filipino Masses each won one seat. Voter turnout was 83%.

In 2024, the Commission on Elections (COMELEC) announced changes that reduced the time window in which candidates can be withdrawn or substituted. The changes aim to curb the practice of parties fielding “placeholder” candidates to make strategic substitutions closer to election day
