  • Chief of State: President XI Jinping (since 14 March 2013) 

  • Head of Government: Chief Executive of Macau, Sam Hou FAI (since 20 December 2024) 

  • Assembly: unicameral, 33-member Legislative Assembly 

 

Electoral System: 

  • The President is indirectly elected by the National People’s Congress for a 5-year term. There are no term limits.  

  • The Chief Executive is chosen by a 400-member Election Commission, whose members are appointed by the Central People’s Government, to serve a five-year term. No term limits are specified.  

  • There are 33 members of the Legislative Assembly. 14 members of the Legislative Assembly are directly elected, 12 members are indirectly elected, and 7 members are appointed by the Chief Executive.
