All members serve 4-year terms. 
In 2019, the top vote-getters were the Spanish Socialist Workers’ Party (PSOE) with 92 seats and the People’s Party (PP) with 84 seats. Eight additional parties also won seats, and voter turnout was 68%.

In May 2023, Prime Minister Pedro Sánchez called legislative snap elections following his party’s poor performances in the municipal elections of May 2023.
