General Information

At Stake in this Election: 

  • All 30 seats in the House of Assembly. 

 

  • Chief of State: President Jeffery Davidson BOSTIC (since 30 November 2025) 

  • Head of Government: Prime Minister Mia MOTTLEY (since 25 May 2018) 

  • Assembly: bicameral Parliament (Parlement de Barbade)comprised of a 30-seat House of Assembly and a 21-seat Senate.  

 

  • The President is elected via an electoral college system that includes both houses of Parliament. Presidents serve four-year terms.  

  • The Prime Minister is appointed by the President and is usually the leader of the majority party or coalition.  

  • Members of the House of Assembly are directly elected via a plurality system to serve 5 year terms.  

  • Members of the Senate are appointed to serve by the President. 12 senators are appointed on the advice of the Prime Minister, 2 are appointed on the advice of the leader of the opposition, and 7 are appointed at the President’s discretion. There are no constitutionally-mandated term limits. 

 

The last House of Assembly election was held on January 19, 2022. The Barbados Labor Party won all 30 seats. Voter turnout was 45%.
