The President is elected by majority vote in up to two rounds to a once renewable 5-year term.

The majority of members of the National Assembly are directly elected by plurality vote in single member constituencies, and each district must have at least one woman representative. 30 members are indirectly elected by special interest groups of youth, disabled people, elderly, workers, and the armed forces. Any individuals appointed by the President to the cabinet who are not already a member of the National Assembly becomes an ex-officio non-voting member. All members are elected to a 5-year term.
In the last election in 2021, Yoweri Kaguta MUSEVENI won in the first round with 58% of the vote. Voter turnout was 57%.
