General Information

Voters are voting to approve two pieces of legislation: 

 - The Federal Act on Electronic Identification Services (e-ID Act) 

 - Federal Decree on Cantonal Property Taxes on Second Homes 

 

  • Chief of State: President of the Swiss Confederation Karin KELLER-SUTTER (since 1 January 2025) 

  • Head of Government: President of the Swiss Confederation Karin KELLER-SUTTER (since 1 January 2025) 

  • Assembly: Bicameral Federal Assembly comprised of the 200-seat National Council and the 46-seat Council of States.  

 

  • The President and the Vice President are indirectly elected via the Federal Assembly to serve 1-year terms. 

  • Members of the Federal Assembly is directly elected via proportional representation, to serve 4-year terms. 

 

The last referendum was held on February 9, 2025 to decide on a environment-related question. 30.3% of voters voted “yes” and 69.8% voted “no”. Voter turnout was 38%.
