The President is elected by an electoral college comprised of all members of both houses of Parliament. The President serves a five-year term, and there are is no term limit.

The Prime Minister is appointed by the President and is typically the leader of the majority party in the House of Representatives.

All members of the Senate are appointed and serve until the next dissolution of Parliament. 16 members are appointed by the President acting on the advice of the Prime Minister, 6 are appointed by the President acting on the advice of the leader of the Opposition, and 9 are appointed by the President at their own discretion from outstanding persons from economic, social, or community organizations. There are no term limits.

All members of the House of Representatives are elected in single-seat constituencies for a five-year term. Ther are no term limits.
The last election was held on August 10, 2020. The People’s National Movement won 22 seats, and the United National Congress won 19 seats. Voter turnout was 58%.

Prime Minister Stuart Young called a snap election on his second day in office. The general election was originally slated to take place in late summer 2025.
