- The Senate is comprised of 348 seats. 328 seats are reserved for metropolitan France, Guadeloupe, Martinique, French Guiana, Reunion, and Mayotte. 2 seats each are reserved for New Caledonia and French Polynesia. 1 seat each is reserved for Saint-Pierre and Miquelon, Saint-Bathelemy, Saint-Martin, and Wallis and Futuna. 12 seats are reserved for French nationals abroad. Members are indirectly elected by departmental electoral colleges using either absolute majority vote or proportional representation vote depending on the number of members in each department. All members serve 6-year terms, with one-half of the membership renewed every 3 years.
- The National Assembly is comprised of 577 seats. 556 seats are reserved for metropolitan France, 10 are reserved for overseas departments, and 11 are reserved for citizens abroad. All members are directly elected by absolute majority vote in 2 rounds if needed to serve 5-year terms.
In the 2022 National Assembly election, the Ensemble Party won 244 seats, New People’s Ecological and Social Union won 127 seats, National Rally won 89 seats, and Union of the Right and Centre won 64 seats. Voter turnout was 46%.
