Electoral System:  

  • The President is directly elected by qualified majority vote in up to two rounds. Candidates must win at least 45% of votes or 40% of votes and a 10 percentage point lead over the second-place finisher to win the presidency.  

  • In the Senate, all 72 members are directly elected via closed-list proportional representation vote from multi-seat constituencies. Within each of the 24 constituencies, 2 seats are given to the first-place party, and 1 seat is given to the second-place party. All members serve 6-year terms, and one-third of seats are up for election every 2 years. 

  • In the Chamber of Deputies, all 257 members are directly elected by closed-list proportional representation vote in multi-seat constituencies. All members serve 4-year terms, and half of the seats are up for reelection every 2 years. 

Last Election: 

In the first round, Sergio Tomás MASSA (Unión por la Patria) led the field with 36.68% of the vote, followed by Javier Gerardo MILEI (La Libertad Avanza) with 29.98% of the vote. Voter turnout was 77.65%.
