Chief of State: President Umaro Sissoko EMBALÓ (since 27 February 2020)

Assembly: Guinea-Bissau has a unicameral People's National Assembly (Assembleia Nacional Popular) with 102 seats.

Description of electoral system:

The President is directly elected by absolute majority vote in up to two election rounds. The President may serve up to two 5-year terms consecutively.
The Prime Minister is appointed by the president in consultation with party leaders.
In the National People’s Assembly, 100 members are directly elected in multi-seat constituencies by closed-list proportional representation vote. The remaining 2 members are directly elected from two single-seat overseas constituencies (Africa and Europe).
